Since 1997, FIDIDA has been supporting a community-based rehabilitation project in Chipata, Eastern Province of Zambia, in co-operation with Chipata Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Association. The goals of this project are to promote the participation of people with disabilities and to increase the awareness of the equal rights for disabled people within the communities. The Association is led and administrated by people with disabilities and together with the members of the association they set the goals for their operational activities. The Association has regional committees in the communities of Champande, Kasamanda, Chikando, Jerusalem, and Kamulaza. These committees have, for instance, organized different educational events in the fields of financial administration, organizational activities, cooking, and craftsmanship.

Chita CBR Association operations are guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It actively seeks action to improve the status of people with disabilities by public communication and education, organizing fundraising, rehabilitation, giving appliances and healthcare services. Clinics specialized in rehabilitation of the children with cerebral palsy have turned out to be an essential form of activity.

Persons with disabilities have also been financially supported through the community-based rehabilitation project in order to give them access to hospitals and other similar institutions. Children with hard of hearing as well as visually impaired children have received support in their studies in the school of Magwero. Moreover, people with disabilities have also been trained to different vocational positions, such as tailors. With the support of FIDIDA, the CBR Association has been able to purchase appropriate office space and supplies to run their operational activities.

At the moment, along with the rehabilitation activities, the people working in the project are concentrating on strengthening the administrative and financial capacity of the association.
