FIDIDA in the South

FIDIDA also implements its own projects in developing countries. FIDIDA is a small organisation and has only two to three long-term partnerships at a time. The main goal of these projects is to empower disabled persons and to improve their living conditions in developing countries. Equal rights and participation of disabled people are central principles in all of FIDIDA’s activities.

In 2006, FIDIDA has three projects/partners in the South:

Chipata CBR Association in Zambia

FIDIDA has supported a Community-based Rehabilitation Project in the Eastern Province of Zambia since 1996. The goal of this programme is the equalisation of opportunities for disabled persons in their communities. The activities of this programme include rehabilitation, vocational training and income-generation.

Forum of Mozambican Associations of Disabled People (FAMOD)

FIDIDA has been working in Mozambique since 1998. The local partner is Forum of Mozambican Associations of Disabled People (FAMOD). FAMOD is an umbrella organisation for 14 Disabled Persons’ Organisation (DPOs) in Mozambique. The goal of the project is to empower (via capacity-building) the DPOs in the country and also to strengthen the co-operation and networking between these organisations.

Cambodia Disabled People’s Organisation (CDPO)

FIDIDA has supported Cambodia Disabled People’s Organisation (CDPO). The overall objective of CDPO is the empowerment of disabled persons within their communities. FIDIDA has worked with CDPO since 2002.
