FIDIDA has been working  with its Mozambican partner FAMOD -  Forum of Mozambican Associations of Disabled People - since 1999.  FAMOD is an umbrella organisation for 14 Disabled Persons’ Organisation (DPOs) in Mozambique. The goal of the work is to empower the DPOs in the country through capacity-building and also to strengthen the co-operation and networking between these organisations. Inclusion of disabled people into the society is the overall goal of FAMOD.

Celebrating the International Day of Disabled people 3rd December in Mozambique.

In Mozambique FAMOD organizes a Disability week - not only one day, 3rd ofDecember.

The march of 3.12. is the most visible happening, but disability week in Mozambique  includes many  kinds of activities advocating media, government representatives, municipalities and organisations.

The march of 3.12.2004  was organized in Matola, township near Maputo.

Young and old people with different kinds of impairments were firmly marching to promote disabled people’s rights in Mozambique.

The presidential elections of Mozambique  took place during the same week – “We vote for our Inclusion”.

The football match of mine-amputees youngsters was one of the highlights of the Disability Day.

Children gathered to follow the activities that took place during the 3rd od December.

Mozambican sign language  has been developed with financial and technical  assistance of Finnish Association of the Deaf FAD. Deaf organisation ASUMO is a member of FAMOD.

In FAMOD all kind of disability groups are united on promotion on disabled people´s rights.

The role of FAMOD is to strengthen the 14 member organisations and their branches all over Mozambique.

The Theatre  group  NVHLUKO  does advocacy work through drama.
